The most commonly used lifting equipment is the hook, but other options include lifting rings, lifting cups, clamps, and lifting beams. Lifting cups, clamps, and lifting beams can be used as dedicated lifting equipment on cranes for long-term use, or as interchangeable auxiliary lifting equipment attached to the hook for temporary use. They are often used in warehouses and yards handling a variety of goods to improve operational efficiency. Lifting equipment for bulk materials is typically a grab with openable and closable jaws, or an electromagnetic chuck can be used to pick up magnetic materials such as metal shavings. Lifting equipment for fluid materials is commonly found in buckets and hoppers. Molten steel or chemical solutions are typically discharged by tilting or pulling out a bottom plug, while fluid materials such as concrete are discharged by opening the bottom door of the hopper.
